This appointment is for a three-year term beginning in October 2025 and will be appointed by interview.

The role of Workshop Lead focuses on quality and impact of RCOG skills-based course and workshops as well as effective delivery. As a Workshop Lead, you will review the event from planning through delivery as well as advise the content, theme development and speaker line-ups.
RCOG Events
The RCOG Events team, led by the Director of Events and Corporate Development, is responsible for the organisation and delivery of all RCOG events, courses, webinars and conferences. This amounts to approximately 120 events per year:
- 80 RCOG courses, events and webinars including 20 hand-on workshops
- External courses and Congresses – National Trainee Conference, other regional scientific meetings 1 – 2 per annum
- RCOG World Congress every two years with pre-Congress workshops
- Franchised courses 50+ per annum
The Workshop Lead is responsible for the ongoing development, quality assurance and delivery of RCOG’s hands-on educational programmes, particularly:
- RCOG World Congress workshops
- RCOG Assisted Birth Simulation Training (ROBuST)
- Basic Practical Skills in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Diagnostic and Operative Hysteroscopy
- Surgical skills courses to be developed
Roles and responsibilities
Together with the Practical Skill Course Convenors:
- Ensure a balanced programme of meetings and courses which encompass areas of scientific interest, clinical developments, education and training, interdisciplinary discourse and continuing professional development within the broad field of obstetrics and gynaecology, and maternity care
- Ensure programme alignment with GMC standards and RCOG learning strategy
- Provide the quality assurance of workshops through delegate and course organiser feedback
- Support innovations such as simulation integration and blended delivery by actively engaging with both industry and faculty
- Advise selection of expert clinicians and simulation faculty to teach and demonstrate equipment
- Review and advise securing and arrangement of simulation equipment, procedural tools and consumables
- Support and collaborate with College’s Events and Corporate Development teams to secure sponsorship
- Review and advise marketing material, and management of delegate recruitment and communication
- Propose improvements of future workshops iterations
- Liaise with other RCOG committee chairs and honorary officers where appropriate including the following:
- Education Quality Assurance Committee;
- RCOG World Congress Scientific Programme Committee.

This is a busy role and requires an individual who has the time and enthusiasm to devote to it. Much of the work can be done virtually such as overseeing programmes and feedback etc. There are occasions when face-to-face meetings are necessary during the 12-month period.
The tenure of this role is three years but may be renewed subject to further review.
This role description reflects the present requirements of the post. As duties and responsibilities change and develop, the role description will be reviewed and be subject to amendment in consultation with the post holder.
Person specification
- MRCOG/FRCOG
- Registered with a licence to practise with GMC, in good standing
- Substantive consultant in obstetrics and/or gynaecology in UK NHS Practice
- Extensive experience in developing and organising large-scale workshops involving multiple industry partners
- Extensive experience of developing courses or education programmes
- Evidence of appraisal of course content and delegate feedback
- At least one fully completed CPD cycle
- Evidence of active involvement in medical education
- College Tutor or Educational Supervisor experience

Committee Chair/Member/Course Convenors and Organisers
If within your committee role or work as course convenor or organiser you gain knowledge which enhances patient care or leadership and technical skills (including, for example, giving presentations, teaching sessions or mock examining) credits can be claimed as an ‘Experiential Learning Event’.
CPD users can now freely select and record the number of credits for all their CPD activities. For Experiential Learning Events, a Reflection is required to claim the selected credits. In addition, 1 or 2 credits can be claimed for an action following the learning (1 credit for a simple action, 2 credits for a complex action). To claim credits for an action, the individual needs to demonstrate how they have applied their learning to their practice, the service they provide and/or the potential impact of the learning.
For those who prefer to follow RCOG recommendations, the CPD Framework still provides a suggested number of credits that can be claimed for different CPD activities.
