Why is the RCOG introducing a subscription for retired members?

Retirement has always been an important part of the RCOG community, and your lifelong contribution is deeply valued. For many years, the RCOG has been an outlier among medical Royal Colleges in not charging a subscription to retired members, despite continuing to provide services, resources and support. Working with input from the College Retired Fellows and Members Committee and approval from the College Council, the optional paid subscription model compares with the offer to retired members of other UK medical Royal Colleges. 

Introducing a tiered subscription model helps ensure: 
  • Fairness in how shared resources are supported 
  • Sustainability of the College’s mission 
  • Choice in how retired members stay connected 
  • Continuity of your lifelong relationship with the College
We are inviting you to contribute financially and the new model ensures the College can continue delivering high‑quality services and global impact for future generations. 
Will I still be part of the RCOG community if I choose not to pay?

Yes. Belonging to the College is lifelong. Retired Fellows and Members who choose the free option will: 

  • Retain their FRCOG/MRCOG designatory letters
  • Be listed in the College Public Register
  • Receive regular member news
  • Maintain voting rights
You will always remain part of the RCOG community, whatever option you choose.

Yes. All retired members can stay connected. 

  • Paid subscribers have full access to events, journals, library resources and voluntary roles.
  • Free subscribers can still attend RFMS events on a pay‑per‑event basis and remain part of the wider community. 
How do I decide which option is right for me?
It depends on how you wish to stay connected:
