RCOG Liaison Groups

RCOG Liaison Groups (LGs) comprise College members resident in the UK with a strong interest in a specific country and who wish to support O&G doctors as they come to work in the UK. They form an important link with the respective International Representative Committee (IRC) where one exists. Each group is known as the RCOG (country) Liaison Group.

The RCOG currently has 11 Liaison Groups (LGs) representing the following countries:

  • Middle East and North Africa: Egypt, Iraq and Syria
  • Sub-Saharan Africa: Ghana, Nigeria and Sudan
  • South Asia: India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan and Sri Lanka

Liaison Groups (LGs) terms of reference:

  • LGs undertake a key function supporting O&G doctors from overseas as they come to work in the UK. This includes, but is not limited to, those doctors coming to the UK through the MTI scheme.
  • LGs work closely with their respective International Representative Committees (IRCs) and the LG Chair is a member of the relevant IRC. LGs provide support for IRC activities outlined in the collaboration frameworks and support their educational activities in country. This involves attending the regular IRC meetings.
  • While LGs do not have a fundraising function or responsibilities, nor the ability to hold funds, if groups wish to fundraise for RCOG-approved activities, this can be discussed with the College. Any activity would need to be part of a wide RCOG campaign, compliant with the College fundraising process and adhere to the terms of the UK fundraising regulator.
  • LG Chairs are appointed through a formal, open and transparent recruitment process. LG Chairs will be appointed for a three-year term. They are responsible for leading the activities of the LG, leading the process to appoint LG committee members and engagement with the respective IRC.
