Admission ceremony FAQs
Answers to frequently asked questions about the College's admission ceremonies for Fellows and Members.
In order to become an FRCOG or MRCOG, you’ll need to have met all the membership requirements. This includes completing all relevant exams, declaration forms and paying your membership fee. Once you become a full Fellow or Member of the RCOG, you’ll be awarded the right to use the relevant designatory letters.
Depending on the status of your membership, those post-nominals will be FRCOG (Fellow) or MRCOG (Member). You do not need to attend a ceremony in order to become an FRCOG or MRCOG.
Fellows and Members don’t require a ticket for the ceremony, but please ensure you have booked your place using the booking platform and that you have received a confirmation email. If you haven’t received the confirmation email please contact us at ceremonies@rcog.org.uk.
Up to 2 guest tickets are provided to each Fellow/Member who requests them.
We can only guarantee 2 tickets per Fellow/Member.
You are strongly advised not to make any arrangements (including travel) for any guests unless their ticket has been confirmed.
At this time we cannot accommodate any additional visitors.
The post-ceremony reception is open to Fellows and Members and their guests with tickets only due to limited space
You are welcome to share this celebration with anyone you choose and children are welcome to attend this event. All children over the age of five will need to have a guest ticket of their own. Younger children won’t need their own ticket if they can watch from the lap or shared seat of another guest.
We’re required to have an accurate count of how many people are in our building for health and safety reasons. This number includes babies and children. You will be asked to specify numbers when you make your booking.
Ceremonies typically last around an hour. While there are no crèche or childcare facilities provided, we do have a Family Room in the College which has a dedicated space for families including baby-changing facilities, breastfeeding facilities, toys, books, and games for children.
Children must be accompanied at all times.
Fellows and Members will have allocated seating in the Main Hall.
All guest seating is unreserved (i.e. specific seat numbers are not assigned to guests). If your guests have particular requirements such as disabled access, please contact ceremonies@rcog.org.uk.
Guests will be directed to unassigned seats by ceremony stewards upon entering the Main Hall.
Ceremonies typically last approximately 60 minutes but this may change depending on the number of awards being presented on the day.
The membership team can provide a letter to accompany your visa application.
Contact the Membership Assistant at ceremonies@rcog.org.uk and request an "admission ceremony invitation" letter.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide an invitation letter that specifically names any of your accompanying guests.
This is absolutely fine – please notify the Membership Assistant on ceremonies@rcog.org.uk in advance of the ceremony so that the President may be informed.
During the ceremony, we ask that you pause in front of the President to have your photograph taken.
A photograph will be taken of every Fellow and Member with the President on the stage during the Ceremony.
Guests are only permitted to take photos and videos prior to or during the ceremony from their seats. No filming or photography is permitted from the aisles or where it may obstruct the space of the official photographer.
We understand that Fellows and Members may also want to take photos of their friends as they receive their award, but again, the ceremony flow must not be impeded or delayed and so taking selfies on stage is not permitted.
There are no parking facilities at the College.
